City encourages tenants to make rental payments, help is available

14 January 2022

The City of Cape Town’s Public Housing Department encourages tenants to pay their monthly rental, make use of the help available if they are unable to pay and to use the City’s alternate payment options. Tenants who are unable to pay, must apply to the City for relief or to make a payment arrangement. Tenants are advised to make an appointment to visit their local housing office. Read more below:

It is important that the amount due is paid each month to ensure that the relief granted and the arrangement made is not cancelled and to avoid debt management action being taken against them.

‘The City thanks all tenants who have continued to pay their rental diligently during these difficult times. The income from these payments is used for maintenance and upgrades to the City’s rental stock across the metro. Tenants who are struggling to make regular rental payments or who are in arrears are encouraged to approach the City for assistance and to enter into a payment arrangement with us. Help is available; make an appointment with us so that we can help you.

‘Remember when visiting your local housing office that only a limited number of customers will be allowed in the building at any one time and only customers who have made an appointment will be assisted. Making an appointment is important and customers must remember to only visit an office when absolutely necessary so that we continue to curb the spread of Covid-19.

‘Social distancing rules remain in place and only those wearing masks are allowed entry into our facilities. Let us continue to be safe and to curb the spread of Covid-19,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.

Our housing offices are open on weekdays from 08:00 to 15:00.
